Khatyn is a former village of Minsk region and a symbol of the tragedy of Belarusian people, the mournful page of history of the Great Patriotic War.
Memorial complex was built in 1969 in memory of 223,000 residents who died here. The village of Khatyn was burnt together with the inhabitants and embodies the idea of the courage and disobedience of the people who brought innumerable sacrifices in the name of victory.
The complex consists of:
- Memorial of the Unconquered Man with a Dead Child in his Arms;
- Symbolic barn roof;
- The place of burning the villagers. Over the mass grave is the Crown of Memory with the words of the dead to the living;
- Khatyn bells that ring simultaneously every 30 seconds;
- Obelisk with a memorial plate;
- Former village street. In place of each house you can see the first crown of the log house;
- The world’s only «Cemetery of villages», where 185 Belarusian villages are symbolically buried;
- «Eternal Flame» and 3 birches remind that every fourth inhabitant of Belarus died during the Great Patriotic War
- «The Wall of Memory», in the niches of which there are memorial plates with the names of concentration camps and places of mass destruction of people in the territory of Belarus.
