The passion so widely spread in Europe – military-historical clubs – has also come to Belarus. The Belarusian people are proud of their country’s past and carefully keep its traditional culture. Every year there is a wonderful opportunity to plunge deeply into the history and to feel yourself as a resident of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania by attending one of the numerous medieval festivals and knight tournaments. With nothing more but enthusiasm present-day knights and their ladies put all their time and money to revive valorous historical memory. In the way they do it one can easily distinguish traits of Belarusian national character. Costumed performances, medieval music and dancing, folk bands’ appearances, knight fights, stunts on horseback, opportunity to try on the knight armour suit, exercises with knight arms, bow shooting, as well as a magnificent dishes in the Old Belarusian style – just welcome to the Middle Ages.
It is really a very spectacular sight, which draws attention of many people. Among them are not only the historical reconstruction enthusiasts but also common citizens who are astonished at the sight of noble knights. Therefore young men in knight’s armor and ladies in long dresses and fanciful headgear have recently become an integral part of every city festivity. Such spectacular scenes as castle assault, knight mass battles and equestrian contests will undoubtedly impress a visitor from the XXI century. Old castles of Mir, Lida, Novogrudok seem to be perfect scenery for such mind-blowing events. Some of them obtain the international status and unite knight clubs from Belarus, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Czech Republic and other countries.
