«Kunstkamera» is translated from German as cabinet of rarities. In this case, anatomical rarities are meant.
Kunstkamera is a unique teratological museum in the city of Grodno. The exposition is located at the department of normal anatomy in a historic building of the XVI century, according to legend, exactly here the opening and subsequent embalming of King Stephen Batory’s body was made for the first time in Eastern Europe. The history of an unusual exhibition dates back to the 50s of the 20th century.
Now the museum has about 70 unique teratological exhibits:
- «Siamese twins»;
- «Mermaids»;
- «Two-faced Janus»;
- «Cyclopia»;
- «Anencephals»;
- Fetus with numerous malformations.
